Seminyak or Canggu, where should I have my wedding?

Table of Contents

Deciding on where to have your wedding ceremony and reception in Bali can depend on many factors.

Most Australian couples that we help plan their weddings fall into two camps; those that like Seminyak and those that love Canggu. For whatever reason, we find that these are the two most popular locations so the team here thought we would compile some information relating to the two areas and what differentiates them and makes them so unique.

Although they are within 20 minutes by car of each other they are quite distinct in character and ambience.

What’s popular about Seminyak?

Seminyak is the beating heart of popular tourism in Seminyak. It runs all the way from Legian right through to Batu Belig so it’s pretty large. Within the radius that is Seminyak, are well know bars, restaurants, lots of shops as well as delis, yoga studious and surf shops. Seminyak is where all the famous hotels are located as well as hundreds of really gorgeous villas.

To spend a day in Seminyak is not enough. It is pulsating with activity from early morning till late at the night. It is action 24/7 with tourists from all over the world coming here in droves to get a piece of the excitement. World-famous day clubs and restaurants such as mamas an, Sardine, Ku De Ta and Potato Head, Cafe Del Mar are just a few names that are in the Seminyak area. If you planning to have your honeymoon here then rest assured there are heaps on offer to do.

If you’re into shopping then the list is endless. If hanging on the beach is your thing then most of the villa accommodation in Seminyak is within easy walking distance to the beach. If you want to explore the island and do some sightseeing then this is the ideal area to begin exploring the island as it’s really central. Whatever your tastes or budget Seminyak will offer newlyweds something special. If the buzz gets too much for you then there are always chic day spas where you can luxuriate in Balinese massages and unwind for a fraction of the cost back home here in Australia.

Seminyak is about a 25-minute drive from the airport while Canggu is 35-40 minutes depending on the traffic and the time of day you intend to arrive.

What’s the hype about Canggu?

Canggu, on the other hand, is only a short 10-15 minute drive from Seminyak but you would feel like you are on another island. People say that it’s like how Seminyak was 10 years ago and it’s true. It still has that rustic charm where you can see farmers working in their rice fields with the odd cow walking across the road. It’s so much quieter and laid back than the past paced Seminyak.

Canggu is now famous for a few things that most brides and grooms will love. Obviously, there is the beach and along with this comes those great sunsets with picture-postcard backdrops for your wedding ceremony. A lot of couples opt for some fabulous post-wedding photo opportunities as the sun magically sets on the horizon. Canggu also has some great cafes, bars and restaurants to keep most honeymooners happy. If you are into surfing then there’s some great surf at Echo & Pererenan Beach as well as the now-famous Old Man’s area.

If you planning on having your wedding in Canggu there are some magnificent estates and wedding venues right on the beach. Make sure you ask Cindy our head wedding planner about these as the rates are quite reasonable for a day or two. If you planning on staying for a couple of days there are also lots of gorgeous honeymoon villas in Canggu that are peaceful and very private. It’s really the area where you come to get away from it all and be alone with your partner. Just imagine long walks on the beach followed by sunset drinks at one of the local bars with a freshly prepared meal by your own personal chef at your private villa; how perfect! This is why Canggu is so popular.

Staying in one area doesn’t mean you can’t venture into the other. Most couples will either rent a scooter for $5 per day to get around easily or if they prefer most villas will have a manager who can organise transport to get from one place to the other. Everything is geared and set up so that you have the best time while on your honeymoon and our professional and really popular wedding planning service will ensure that your day runs absolutely smoothly.
